Emily Irene VanCamp originally wanted to become a professional ballet dancer. After having a time spent with her sister Katie on The Ladies Room movie set, Emily became fascinated by acting. As she began taking acting classes, Emily Irene VanCamp also got guest spots in television shows across Canada. A few of the television shows that she appeared in were Do You fearful of Dark? Radio Active and Dice. VanCamp made a significant career break when he got selected to play the role of regular Sam Dolan in WB's horror mystery series Glory Days. While receiving praise from the critics, but the show's low rating ultimately caused it to be cancelled after just nine episodes. The May 12th, 1986 actress was quickly offered a second part in Everwood. The character she plays Amy Abbott is one of the major characters. The actress was nominated for four Teen Choice Awards and a Young Artist Award.
